Looking for indoor activities for kids in Myrtle Beach?

Let’s be real—Myrtle Beach is known for its sunny days, sandy toes, and endless outdoor fun, but sometimes the weather just doesn’t play along. When it’s cold, rainy, or just not a beach day, I don’t panic—I’ve got a list of go-to indoor spots that keep my kids happy (and me sane).

Over the years, we’ve found some hidden gems when it comes to indoor activities in Myrtle Beach that are perfect for burning off energy, learning something new, or just having a blast without worrying about the weather. Whether my kids want to climb, jump, explore, or pretend, there’s always something to do.

So, Myrtle Beach is a huge tourist area. You’ll find a ton of recommendations and advertisements around town for things for the whole family to do. However, there are a few hidden gems that you might now hear about.

Are you looking to become a local? Grab my free “Moving to Myrtle Beach Guide” where I give you some insider tips about moving to this area.

Here are our favorite “hidden gem” indoor activities for kids…

1. EdVenture Children’s Museum

If you have younger children, EdVenture Children’s Museum is one of the best indoor spots to spend a rainy day. It has tons of hands-on, interactive exhibits, for some learning through play that is geared to preschool-Kindergarten age.

Some of the hit activities:

The Giant Ed, a towering figure that children can climb inside to learn about the human body.

The Farm-to-Table Exhibit, where kids can pretend to be farmers, picking crops and delivering goods.

The City of EdVenture, an interactive mini-city with a bank, post office, grocery store, and more!

2. Myrtle Beach Mall

This mall has seen better days with not much left in it. However, it has become one of the place my kids ask to go to when we need to get out of the house but its cold or rainy outside.

First, there aren’t many stores left in it and so there are hardly any people walking around during the day. This gives my boys plenty of space to walk around and be goofy. Let’s be real, they play tag.

Bass Pro Shop is there and we LOVE checking out the outdoor equipment and of course the big fish tank! They do have a good toy section, especially around Christmas.

If you head into the mall itself from Bass Pro Shop, there is a great little model train shop. My kids enjoyed watching the trains along the tracks but their favorite was testing all the different buttons to see where on the big train display there was some action taking place.

If you walk a little further, you will find the quarter arcade area. Lots of options of older arcade games to play and they are all $0.25. Pinball is a favorite.

This mall does have a movie theater so that is a great option.

3. Big Air Trampoline Park: Jump, Flip, and Burn Off Some Energy

Okay, so this isn’t necessarily a hidden gem, but it’s a favorite so I decided to include it here.

When my kids need to burn off some energy, Big Air Trampoline Park is our go-to spot. It is more pricey than anything else on my list, but it is a hit every time we go. This place is more than just trampolines—it’s packed with high-flying fun for all ages.

Main Court with wall-to-wall trampolines for endless jumping (+ burning off that energy)

The Ninja Warrior Course is a hit. Adds a bit of a challenge as it tests balance, strength, and agility.

Battle Beam & Foam Pit for friendly (and soft) competitions. I have boys. Competition is their middle name.

Trampoline Dodgeball for an action-packed challenge (my boys are obsessed with dodgeball-it does get pretty intense. Definitely just for the older ones)

The other area my boys like is the hipline. There are 2 of them next to each other so both my boys like timing it so they can race each other to the end + dismount into the foam pit.

If you do have littles, the Lil’ Air section is designed just for younger jumpers and keeps them safe from the crazy bigger kids.

Rainy or cold days can make kids feel cooped up, but at Big Air, they can jump, climb, and play to their heart’s content—no sunshine is required!

4. The Beast Ninja

Think American Ninja Warrior.

With an indoor obstacle course inspired by the popular TV show American Ninja Warrior, this venue offers exciting fun for kids, teens, and adults alike. It was recently renovated so we still have to check out all the changes they made when expanding the course.

They have ways to modify it for all ages-whether you have littles or teens, they can participate. They do offer memberships and classes in addition to their open gym time. Check their website for times and prices.

The Beast Ninja is not only great for physical activity but also encourages teamwork, determination, and a bit of healthy competition—all while staying dry indoors.

5. Horry County Museum

If your family enjoys history and culture (or even if they don’t), the Horry County Museum is an excellent spot to explore on a rainy day. Located in historic Conway (about 15 miles from Myrtle Beach), this museum is a hidden gem that showcases the history, culture, and natural beauty of the region.

While this isn’t real exciting or interactive, it held my boys’ attention and we have been back multiple times.

There are different exhibits on local wildlife and historical artifacts from the Native American tribes that once lived in the area. My boys spent quite a bit of time checking out all the taxidermy animals in the local wildlife exhibit.

The Waccamaw Indian Tribe Exhibit, which educates visitors on the rich Native American history of the region was another one they enjoyed. There is a life-size hut on display.

This small but fascinating museum offers an enriching and quiet indoor activity for families looking to learn more about the local area and its heritage. It is FREE!

The library is right next door and often has kids activities going on.

6. Museum of Coastal Carolina and Ingram Planetarium

This is located just across the border into North Carolina.

Another great museum to explore on a rainy day is the Coastal Carolina Museum, which dives deep into the region’s maritime history and natural environment. Perfect for curious minds, this museum offers a look at the local flora, fauna, and sea life that make Myrtle Beach such a special place.

They have an Ocean Reef Gallery which has life-size models of sharks and stingrays and so much more.

The Sea Shore Gallery has a touch tank. We spent a lot of time in this area. The staff was very knowledgeable and gave individualized attention to each of my kids. We learned a lot about the starfish and crabs there.

I enjoyed the areas about changing tides, the swamp, and the Waccamaw River.

The planetarium is a neat experience. It is located a few miles from the museum, but you can purchase tickets for both places together. We happened to go for the first time right before the eclipse and so we learned all about that in addition to the normal programming about the stars in the night sky.

Whether you’re exploring the natural history of the area or looking for something interactive to engage the kids, the Coastal Carolina Museum is an underrated spot to spend a rainy afternoon.

So, don’t let the weather get you down—whether you’re jumping at BigAir, arcade games at the Myrtle Beach Mall, or diving into history at the Horry County Museum, there’s no shortage of ways to stay entertained and dry. These local hidden gems for indoor activities for kids are a perfect way to turn a rainy day into an adventure.
